Senator Costa Donates Turkeys to Families in Need
On Nov. 19 I teamed up with the great folks from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Rainbow Kitchen and the Squirrel Hill Food Bank to deliver 100 turkeys to families in need during this season of Thanksgiving. All too often we take the simple things in life for granted and fail to remember that the most important thing we can do each day is to reach out to those in our own communities who may be in need.
The statistics in Pennsylvania are staggering – nearly one in nine people are living in poverty. So for the fifth year, we couldn’t have been more pleased to be able to make this donation a reality for our friends and neighbors in the Pittsburgh area.
Meeting so many families from the district was a reminder of how many people are still struggling to make ends meet. For many families the holiday season is a very difficult time.
By doing something as simple as donating to your local food pantry, you are making it possible for another Pennsylvania family to enjoy a holiday that is a little warmer and a little brighter, while ensuring that no one goes hungry this holiday season.
My sincere and heartfelt thanks go out to my partners in this effort including Dennis McManus and the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Giant Eagle, Homestead Mayor Betty Esper, Rainbow Kitchen and the Squirrel Hill Food Bank. Without their kindness and compassion for families and their children in our area, so many critical needs would go unmet.
I wish each of you and your families a warm and welcoming Thanksgiving as you celebrate all of the food, friends and laughter this holiday season has to offer.
