Senate Democrats Seek Job Creation, Education, Safety Net Dollars in Budget Discussions
My Senate Democratic colleagues and I recently unveiled our 2013-14 budget priorities. Our focus remains clear: grow jobs, invest in education, strengthen the social safety net and provide for the long-term sustainability of Pennsylvania businesses and working families.

We have an opportunity and a responsibility to seek new investments and use available resources to change the direction Pennsylvania is moving. My colleagues and I have a vision for Pennsylvania mapped out through our budget priorities that we believe will bring our state back to its status as a leader among states.
My colleagues and I are proposing moving forward by refocusing and redoubling our efforts in a number of areas. We believe more than 120,000 jobs can be created quickly by enacting a responsible transportation plan, expanding Medicaid and using economic development policies outlined in our PA Works Plan. We are prepared for an honest and transparent discussion on issues including:
- Refocusing business tax cuts and eliminating loopholes, including Corporate Net Income;
- Protecting vital assets such as the Liquor Control Board and the Lottery;
- Repairing and protecting our social safety net;
- Expanding Medicaid; and
- Veterans assistance

Pennsylvania is a place bursting at the seams with opportunity and potential. We need to regain the ground we have lost. We are at a very critical point and need direction and leadership. The plan my colleagues and I are proposing provides a starting point. We look forward to working together to make this plan a reality on behalf of all Pennsylvanians.
