TeleTown Hall Meeting
Earlier this week, we held our first live TeleTown Hall. This call gave us an opportunity to discuss issues that are important to our community. It also gave me the chance to answer your questions and address your concerns.
I enjoyed talking with you about many of the key issues the legislature is discussing this month. We covered topics including the budget deficit, possible liquor privatization, pension reform and a Marcellus Shale extraction tax.
We also spent some time talking about Medicaid expansion, which would raise an estimated $400 million that could be used to balance the budget. In my view, Medicaid expansion is just the right thing to do to help 500,000 working men and women gain medical insurance while creating more than 35,000 jobs.
There were many great questions asked about education and the governor’s $1 billion budget cuts that need to be reversed. The key for me is jobs, health care, repairing the social safety net, investing in education and preparing for the future by handling our budget problems now.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the TeleTown Hall. If you weren’t available for the call, I hope you’ll be able to join us for the next one.
