PITTSBURGH, PA – October 22, 2024 – Today, Senator Jay Costa and Representative Joe McAndrew announce $1,464,942 in LSA Grants benefitting their constituents.

I look forward to seeing these dollars improve our municipalities and improving the daily experiences of our fellow residents.”
“The dollars awarded today will help save lives, give our kids great places to play, improve our infrastructure, will help keep our water bills in check and will create new affordable homes in our community,” said Representative McAndrew. “I am proud to be teaming up with Senator Costa to drive out these necessary funds. These grant recipients are valued community members doing incredible work. I am delighted to see this money go to work for the people we serve.”
With Representative Joe McAndrew, Senator Costa announces:
- Oakmont Borough was awarded $600,000 for Riverside Park Improvements, including walking trail renovations, rubberized play surfaces, and ADA compliance, among other upgrades.
- Penn Hills Municipality was awarded $200,000 for Jamar’s Tiny Village to purchase five prefabricated homes and two storage units to provide shelter for those in need.
- Verona Borough was awarded $164,942 for Roadway Reconstructions.
- Wilkinsburg Penn Joint Water Authority was awarded $500,000 for the purchase and installation of a Water Meter.

I look forward to seeing these dollars improve our municipalities and improving the daily experiences of our fellow residents.”
“I am always eager to work with Senator Costa to bring more tax dollars back to Allegheny County,” said Pisciottano. “These grant awards are going to support critical aspects of our community, like new vehicle purchases to help more students get to school on time. I’ll continue fighting for every dollar available from the state to help create better lives for my constituents.”
Together with Representative Nick Pisciottano, Senator Costa announces that the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh was awarded $374,409 on behalf of Community Specialist Corporation (DBA The Academy) to purchase a van to transfer students to the New Outlook Academy and New Academy Charter School located in Pittsburgh City, Allegheny County.
The New Academy Charter School provides educational services to juvenile offenders in need of support to improve their regular attendance in school. The project will purchase 10 new passenger vans to support these transport services in making sure these students make it to class.

Oliver,” Benham said. “Once complete, this project will provide major traffic improvements for all who live in and travel through the borough. The rehabilitation of roads like Stamm Avenue is long overdue and we’ll continue advocating for more state funding to revitalize the transportation infrastructure that our community members rely on every day.”
Alongside Representative Jessica Benham, Senator Costa announces that Mt. Oliver Borough was awarded $423,934 for Road Reconstruction and Paving Improvements, which will allow residents to more easily access their homes and help avoid vehicle damages.

“It’s exciting to see new funding coming home to support projects to repair our roads, improve our wastewater services, transform vacant properties into public spaces and revitalize our downtown centers.” Salisbury said. “These are investments that address real-life needs, expand access to jobs and community services and make life safer and more promising for residents.”
In coordination with Representative Abigail Salisbury, Senator Costa announces the following grants:
- Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority was awarded $300,000 for Carrie Blast Furnace Electric Expansion
- Chalfant Borough was awarded $175,000 for Improvements to the Borough of Chalfant Public Safety Building.
- Chalfant Borough was awarded $225,000 for the reconstruction of five roads in Chalfant.
- Churchill Borough was awarded $124,950 for School Zone Radar Warning Signs.
- Edgewood Borough was awarded $425,000 for Edgewood Municipal Complex Improvements.
- Rankin Borough was awarded $250,000 for ALCOSAN Regional Takeover Repairs – POC-M-50 – Phase II.
- Rankin Borough was also awarded $158,000 for Phase II of Municipal Building Improvements, including making the building ADA compliant.
- Swissvale Borough was awarded $250,000 for M-48 Stormwater and Groundwater Remediation Project.
- Swissvale Borough was awarded $35,000 for a Traffic Calming Study.
- Wilkins Township was awarded $300,000 for Queenston Sewer Lining Project involving six thousand linear feet of pipe.
- Wilkinsburg Borough was awarded $300,000 for the purchase of a street sweeper for the borough.

- Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh was awarded $500,000 for phase III of the construction of the New Granada Square Building, entailing HVAC upgrades.

- Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh was awarded $350,000 so that Congregation Poale Zedeck could enter Phase II of building an Emergency Egress.
- Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh was also awarded $32,224 so the Latin American Studies Association Cultural Center can make improvements.
- Finally, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh was awarded $531,124 so that Yeshivath Achei Tmimim of Pittsburgh can complete renovations and supply equipment to Yeshiva Schools 403 Greenfield.
