Resources and Support
Due to President Trump and Washington Republican’s aggressive agenda of redistributing wealth from working families to the richest people in the nation, families may need additional assistance, or may need to meet new work requirements will be imposed on SNAP recipients to continue their eligibility to receive assistance. Many SNAP recipients may now be required to prove that you have worked for at least 20 hours per week in order to continue receiving SNAP benefits. For more information about changes in eligibility, or to contact the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, please visit their website.
Senator Costa Provides an Update on SNAP on November 7, 2025
Let me be clear: PA Senate Democrats have fought against the Trump administration’s draconian rules tooth and nail, and our fight is far from over. We are deeply disappointed that Republicans in Washington turned their backs on us and passed the largest cut to food programming in American history. Nearly two million Pennsylvanians rely on SNAP to put food on the table and make ends meet. Whether you need support weathering the impacts of Trump’s agenda, or whether you are looking to give back and support your community in this trying time, this webpage has organizations and resources for you.
As we continue to do what we can legislatively, we will be available to help answer your questions and connect you to resources wherever we can. Below, you can find a list of some Allegheny County organizations currently accepting volunteers and offering help. We will update this page periodically with new opportunities.
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services has launched Human Services Helpers, a Substack that will cover updates on DHS programs, news from the agency, and how organizations and partners can help their communities. Specifically, as DHS implements changes required by the federal government under HR1, Human Services Helpers will share resources and tips to help Pennsylvanians affected by these changes understand what is happening and what they must do to keep their benefits. News on the federal government shutdown and its impact on programs like SNAP and LIHEAP will also be shared through this platform.
